Gregorio Vallejo

Artist bio
Gregorio Vallejo

At an early age Vallejo came into contact with art. For one year he received lessons
in painting from the famous Spanish painter Ginés Liébana, in Madrid. After
moving his studio to Amsterdam, he successfully completed his studies at the
Wackers Academy in 2.002. This background gave him the possibility to combine
the best of both worlds of art.
During the almost two decades Vallejo lived and worked in Amsterdam, he had
several exhibitions all over the country, and at important Art Fairs.
Returning to Spain in 2014 he started painting in his studio on the countryside,
where he feels the connection with the nature around him, which is a great
inspiration for him.
Techniques he uses most in his works are oil on canvas, aquarelle or ink on paper.
And he loves to experiment with mixed media like collage, wax, copper or silver.
In his landscapes of olive trees sometimes he pastes pieces of paper with words or
text in the sky, like clouds that constantly change. In these works each olive tree is
also portrayed with its own appearance and frozen movement. Everything is
written in nature.
Other recurring themes in his work are the human body and still lives. Movement,
replication and expression are here the key elements. His models seem to move in
this dance of life. Eternity, expiration, and the hope that every spring nature again
wakes up and blooms are great sources of inspiration for this spanish painter. The
fruit falls from the tree but the tree will bear fruit again next year.
During his stay in Chiapas, Mexico, last year, Vallejo got inspired by the sense of
color in this country and by the mystery of water and sounds of the Mayas. In his
recent works since then he is much more expressing movement through light and
color in nature. These waterfalls of colors and more abstract compositions form
the main elements in these paintings and drawings.
